This article introduces a Land Occupation Plan for the area encompassed by Port Industrial Complex Governador Eraldo Gueiros – SUAPE at Southern part of Recife Metropolitan Region. It aims at the compatibility of impacts caused by investments made there when compared to social-environmental issues. These investments represent a new perspective for development however they also bring risks such as environment degradation and intense migration among the locals, causing an increased demand for new housing, transportation and other services besides infrastructure itself. In 2007 an array of guidelines was started to provide sustainable land occupation so as to improve living standards and competitiveness of the place through a physical environment classification for the region. The concept of “amplified urban and regional sustainability” was used which confirms indivisibility of factors such as economic, environmental and social ones to cope with environment degradation and extreme poverty.
